Tie breaker system CSFL II. Questionable? - kc21 - 8-7-13 6:02 PM

According to the current tie breaker, points against is being used to determine which team gets the higher seed with a higher record. This means that how many points a team gives up, can determine your seeding. I am not in favor of this rule because we are eliminating the points for category which can determine the amount of points given up in a game. If an offense tends to look forward to attacking deep and not having long possessions with the ball in their hands, this means that they will score more and most likely give up more then other teams. Based on the pace of the game, whoever has a slower offense will generally have a better defense in the end of the game. The point differential makes more sense because it involves both offense and defense. For example, Team Toronto had the highest margin of victory in week 1, +34. Compared to the current #1 seed in this system, Chicago, they have a +7 point differential. Based on that alone and not basing off team schedule difficulty, Team Toronto was easily the most dominant team in week 1.

Show +1, or -1 if you are for or against this tie breaking system

I agree 100% that this tie-breaking system is better than the one currently in place. The stupidity of the default tie-breaking system is "cum-guzzling" stupidity, as Cookie said.

I agree with cookie completly.

Agreed, it should be set by point differential.

Toronto sucks ass! lol

First off, the head-to-head record is the primary tie-breaker, but I wouldn't expect one such as Arod to know that because he simply argues for the sake of arguing instead of reading through the CSFL rules featured on these forums.

This mod is less like the NFL and more like arena football in terms of scoring. If scoring was as difficult as the NFL then "Points For" would be used over "Points Against", but seeing that it is harder to limit a team to fewer points - "Points Against" is the tie-breaker used beforehand.

Which team is better?
24-0 or 31-7

I'd take the 24-0 victory because, as stated previously, defense is more difficult due to the probability of flukes that can occur on the offensive side of the ball (see Arod's week 1 stats).

WhooKid chose to use the "Points Against" tie-breaker in CSFL I, which I left intact for season two because it makes perfect sense.

Arod's Logic: Toronto, Washington, Chicago, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Dallas

New Jersey gave up 72 points, which is more than twice the amount that Dallas gave up, yet Dallas is in last place and New Jersey is in 4th?

Or you can look at it this way: New Jersey put up 38 points on a team that put up 72 in return. If those 72 "Points For" determined the quality of Toronto then why couldn't they stop this "awful" team from putting up 38 points, which is the 3rd most "Points For" thus far in the season - more than Chicago, which won against a good Dallas team, which by Arod's logic should be in last place.

If that's the case then sign-up Connery for his fluke bombs.

Arod has proven time after time that book smarts does not always correlate with intelligence.

You must also understand that "Points Against" automatically incorporates a team's strength of schedule.

Will Toronto score 72 points on Chicago? Will Dallas lose to New Jersey considering that New Jersey scored more points than Chicago?

Again, to reiterate: in this mod, offense has a higher probability of flukes, which in return inflate the "Points-For" category.

As we make our way further into the season, you will see that "Points Against" is the better of the two categories at depicting the better team. Toronto won't score 72 points every single game nor will Chicago hold it's opponent to just 28 points every single game - but you will see.

I showed how inflated "Points For" can be so that means that "Points Differential" is also inflated because it is made up of both "Points For" and "Points Against".

College football sucks! STFU cookie. Worry about your division esp after only one week.
