The hammer thing is Valve Hammer Editor.

I cannot teach you to create a map as that would take forever to do. Start off my searching thorough Google and YouTube for tutorials. Once you understand the concept then I will be able to answer some of your more direct questions.

Those are just typical models you can find with some searching around; you should focus on finding a .wad you like (basically a texture pack) and trying to get something successfully compiled and running in CS and then work your way up.

Mapping is hard, fun, and rewarding-- keep at it and put something nice in your first football map about me.

First off, I've only made a few football maps. The majority of all football maps are created by WhooKid. Through the years, I have picked WhooKid's brain on several subjects, such as modeling, skinning, coding, and of course mapping.

I can tell you that WhooKid would not recommend using models on maps because they will drain more resources and be just another file that the user had to download. With that being said, all of the objects that you stated were made by WhooKid with the 'brush tool'. He used some of the textures from other maps, but for the most part he creates his own in PaintShop (Canadian Photoshop, but I take take credit for getting him to convert). I'd recommend using Photoshop for creating your own textures and then using the program Wally for creating your own WAD files.

Unfortunately, I won't assist you any further until you have proven that you are capable of even creating a map. I believe that this mod is so popular because it does not have a lot of custom (non-WhooKid) maps, models, and skins, which allows for the gaming experience to remain at such a high quality. Therefor, as I had to prove my noob-self to WhooKid one day, anyone who seeks help on creating high quality maps or skins (NFL player models) must have some experience prior to receiving help. Again, I say this not because I'm mean, but rather because I wish to preserve the quality of the American Football Mod.
